ArtJamz

I was recently invited to the grand opening of ArtJamz in Dupont Circle.  The brainchild of Michael Clements, ArtJamz offers a space where one can paint with her/his friends in a social setting.  There is a bar, and as the name implies, music to enjoy while summoning your creative genius.

ArtJamz has amassed a following as a pop-up over the last two years.  A fun, groovy concept, ArtJamz puts a creative spin on the typical social gathering.  Meeting friends for drinks just added an artsy notch to its belt.

It’s clear that creativity and talent pulse through Michael’s being.  The cheeky “weapons of mass creativity” (supplies room) and cheekier “pee-casso” (restroom) betray his humor and spark.  The space is inviting and entertaining, down to the last detail.

I had the pleasure of meeting Michael but I’m certainly not the only one enamored with his boozy sociable art concept.  Check out FamousDC’s Famous Five interview with Michael here.  Next time you’re itching for something to do, you know where to go.  Be sure to ask for the glitter!

Please note: ArtJamz did not ask me to review their service and is not compensating me to do so.  All thoughts above are my own and are freely given.

San Francisco MOMA

On Monday I kept with the theme of not enough sleep and woke up crazy early to drive into San Francisco with Christine.  I then woke up poor Isaac too early for a Monday (or for any day, really) and was all “surprise! I’m early!”  Spent the morning sucking down the internet like a starved person, and then promptly crashed for the duration of the afternoon.  Deep, delicious, sticky sleep.  It was heavenly.

On Tuesday I forced myself to get out and do something.  That was, after all, the whole purpose of my extended visit.  So I opted to walk downtown, figuring that’d be a good way to see things along the way and get some fresh air and “accomplish something.”  Decided on the San Francisco MOMA, as it was the most recommended art museum by friends, locals, and even strangers on the airplane.  So SFMOMA it was.

Pretty neat place.  My heart still belongs to the MET, which would be very hard to surpass.  The Guggenheim and The Louvre both hold places near and dear to my heart, as does Philadelphia’s Museum of Art and the Musée d’Orsay.  (Oh, the shameless name dropping!)  And obvs the original MOMA.

I totally dug it.  Something about art museums is immensely soothing.  My parents aren’t really into art, which means I had little (if any) exposure when I was younger.  Really, I only learned to enjoy and seek out art in college.  And while modern art isn’t really my thing — I’m afraid I’m too literal to really appreciate it — I still enjoy perusing modern art galleries and museums and seeing what all the crazy kids are up to these days.

Not a bad way to spend a day.
